This review would be 3.5 stars. But i rounded up. 'Cause I'm nice. So my mother sent me here to pick up the bread for her famous thanksgiving stuffing- an onion dotted challah called "Onion Cobblestone". While my moms stuffing is fantastic, I believe most of that is due to this wonderfully moist, flavorful, oniony loaf. We ordered 4 loaves and it came to 13.60- $3.40 / loaf. I don't think this bread is on their regular rotation, so we special ordered it a few days ago and I picked it up today. I walked in and looked around for a minute and was greeted by the owner (I think- she seemed it after talking with her a few minutes). Along the walls were large cases filled with pastries, cookies, cakes and brownies. I'm not quite sure how to describe how I find the typical bakery cookie to be- definitely made with shortening and not butter (yech) kind of floury, sugary fat that has been baked. A let down, in any case. And this style of cookie was what filled a majority of the cases. I asked her what they are known for and she said their seven layer cake hands down. Along with the bread I also got a slice of the cake, a black and white cookie, and a mini bumpy cake kinda thingy. The cake was very, very good. Seven layers of spongy, yellow gateau sandwiching a lovely chocolate mousse-esque filling enrobed on three sides by a thick, fudgey frosting. I say "esque" because I know me some chocolate mousse, and it was more like a very light frosting rather than a mousse. The cookie was just meh- not very flavorful and very much akin to the typical bakery cookie I described above. The mini bumpy cake thingy was WHOA. Super thick fudgey frosting covering a rectangle of moist chocolate cake which was generously slathered with buttercream. I am SOOOO picky when it comes to buttercream frostings, and I have to say this one was kind of a let down. Definitely a shortening base and way too little vanilla. The fudge on top made the whole little thing worth while as it kept the cake underneath super moist and helped flavor the other components that were lacking. We've been coming here for the cobblestone bread for years and will for years to come. I may even be back before next thanksgiving to get another piece of the 7 layer cake!

After reading some reviews, I really wanted to love this place. I drove 25 minutes to check it out. I needed a couple of desserts for a family party and didn't want to settle for grocery store items. SO, I went for the seven layer cake. The gal working the counter was great, she offered me a sample. I thought it was ok.. But there must be something wrong with me because I've read such rave reviews.. I'll get the cake anyhow. I also bought a banana nut cake. My family didn't care for either one. I must admit this is probably the first time we didn't make a dent in the desserts.. I would go back for pastries and breads available, but leave the cakes up to someone else..

My 89 year old mother went in today and bought bread and cookies--when she got home she noticed they forgot to put her bread in the bag. i called the store and they were rue to me and when I came in to pick up the 2 loaves of bread the manager did not apologize nor did she treat me respecfully. I complained about her attitude and she told me I could take my business elsewhere. I asked her for the name of the owner and she wouldn't tell me. REally? I called the BBB and filed a complaint--one of many according to them And Township disclosed owner.'s name. Wow we have been patronizing this bakery for decades.... The manager is a rude nasty woman

This is my very favorite authentic Jewish bake shop. I'm partial to their cinnamon rolls, the butterhorns, the butter cookies and of course the best seven layer cake around! I've even hooked my "goy" friends on the stuff! And don't miss the cinnamon fingers - I think they only make those on Fridays, but well worth it if you can get there. On the "downside" parking at the shopping center can be sketchy and you may not get a convenient space. But I look at it as attempting to walk off a few (okay a very few) of the calories!

I love this place. I love it winter, spring, summer and fall...but especially in summer - when they have the old English D, Comerica Park and baseball shaped cookies. At Superbowl time, they make cookies that represent each team's helmets. Football cookies, football brownies. They also make fun smiley faced cookies...in the summer they have sunglasses. Their royal icing is awesome. They will make special order breads, mini and regular, in all kinds of shapes and sizes - spiders, alligators, jack o'lanterns. You name it, they'll probably make it. I've never purchased their bread, but am pretty sure I could fall in love with their Challah. Holl-a!

They have the most delicious items in this authentic bakery. I particularly like the "Ding Dongs" basically homemade "Big Wheels/Yodels" Don't miss out!

The seven layer cake from this store is fantastic!!!! I had to buy a couple and bring them back to Chicago to let some of my friends and family try the goodies that came from here. I even brought some to work to let some of my employees try it. They all loved it.
